Energy Solutions Team Reports Surge in Renewable Energy Enquiries

Orchard Energy’s Energy Solutions Teams has reported a surge in enquiries from businesses and organisations looking at solar energy, wind turbines and other renewable energy sources.

The team has also been advising on energy usage, looking at ways of reducing consumption and cutting overheads.

Orchard recently advised St Mirren Football Club after the club made a decision to look into converting energy supplies at the ground from traditional to renewable sources.

St Mirren director Richard Atkinson believes sourcing the Club’s power from renewables would offer both environmental and economic benefits.

He said, “This is one of the only guaranteed wins in football, reducing the carbon footprint of the Club and providing us with a cheap source of power at a known price for the future in a market that is seeing ever increasing costs”.

The Scottish club’s plans could see the installation of around 500 solar panels to the stadium roof, a move it hopes will lead to a dramatic reduction in electricity bills.

Keith Barlow, energy consultant at Orchard Energy, explained: “By assessing current usage and existing energy contracts we advise on where savings can be made and this can involve exploring green alternatives.”

Orchard Energy provides bespoke quotes for site surveys, system designs, cost analysis, procurement and installation of multiple energy saving products and services.

"We carry out feasibility studies ranging from  non-technical to equipment specific audits to identify problem areas and solutions that can increase efficiency and reduce costs," said managing director Gareth Henderson.

"We also advise on solar panels, rainwater harvesting and wind turbines, all of which are becoming increasingly popular options for heavy energy users, including those in the manufacturing sector.

"So whether it’s renewable energy options, energy efficiency measures, consumption reporting  or metering and new connections our Energy Solutions Team can work with businesses, charities, venues and other organisations to find the best option."

Orchard Energy Achieves ISO 14001 Certification

Orchard Energy has achieved ISO 14001 accreditation, confirming its commitment to reducing the impact its business has on the environment.

The ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems standard is designed to address the balance between maintaining the profitability of the business and reducing the potential for environmental impact and certification shows a company has processes in place to manage environmental risks and adhere to environmental legislation.

“In order to become ISO 14001 compliant, Orchard Energy and our waste management division Orchard Environmental, had to provide evidence of an established framework and policy for operating in a way that has minimal impact on the environment, as well as clear plans and achievable targets for future environmental performance,” said Managing Director Gareth Henderson.

“Moving forward we now have a team  in place that will continually monitor all aspects of our operations and their actual or potential impact on the environment, primarily in terms of pollution.

“We are delighted to have achieved certification and will work hard to meet our obligations as a business. The objectives of ISO 14001 fit well with our business and complement our business activities and the issues we talk to our clients about every day in relation to energy and waste management  and efficiency,” he added.
